On the street with the caregivers on this June 16, post-confinement day

Because we have been in close contact with you every day, in the midst of the Covid crisis, as parents, children and spouses, we had a duty to be at your side today to ask, together with you, for more resources for the public hospital.

Because we know that nothing ever makes you give up this devotion, that you have pegged to the body, for your patients, we had to walk with you to give echo to your discontent.

Because you have never given up, despite the lack of means, of colleagues, of protective equipment, we had to be in the street to show that we care about you.

Because every morning, or every evening, you did not hesitate, if only for a minute, to go to work, to take care of others, while we ourselves were well protected by the confinement, we could not fail to be with you on the afternoon of June 16, just to say again a big, huge thank you.

Because we were worried about you leaving and just as worried about you coming back, with that Covid sword over your head, we couldn’t miss this appointment so important to your profession.

Because nothing ever makes you back down, when it comes to taking care of those who are sick, fragile, affected in their being or in their flesh, we had to come and support your approach.

Because, like you, we refuse to live in a world where those who take care of others are mistreated just because of economic choices, we could not remain silent today.

Because applause is not enough, is no longer enough, we had no choice but to echo your slogans in favour of better care for the sick, in better working conditions.

Because neither I nor anyone else, not even those who gassed you, when you tried to say that something was wrong in the health field, we can’t say that we will never need your expert hands, your words of comfort, your expertise, we owed it to ourselves to be there just as a sign of solidarity.

And also simply because we love you, because we know the price of your commitment and because we want to show you our solidarity, we had to walk in the streets with you today.
