Mogador from the rooftops

One day, one elsewhere n° 24

Every day, find a morning that’s relaxed to keep your mind open to the world, by subscribing to the blog. To do so, just click on the blue banner at the bottom of the article!

To emerge from the morning mist, to hear in the distance the call of the muezzin and to watch the city, which is awakening, from its rooftops.

Consider with astonishment this tangle of parables that now seem to have conquered the whole city.

Wait for the movement to be born below in the Medina.

Watch the sword merchant, freshly caught, settling around the corner and see the clientele starting to parade.

A few hours later, after doing some shopping and enjoying a good tagine, go up on the terrace to sunbathe, accompanied by a good book.

Take a look in the street below and realize that there is not even a cat in the alleys of the Medina anymore, the city is now plunged in the early afternoon torpor.

Appreciate then the shadow of the big walls all dressed in white.

Turn your head to the side of the minaret and see that a semblance of life remains.

A seagull resists the prevailing apathy and watches over the city while the men take a nap.

Once you have distractedly gone through a few chapters of the book and dozed off for a few moments, you finally decide to come out of your lethargy and set off to explore the city.

In the heat, stop to sip a lemonade on the terrace of the Palais des Remparts and admire the roofs that extend infinitely towards the industrial districts.

Have fun seeing a collection of abandoned tagine dishes, which we couldn’t bring ourselves to throw away because they might have the Baraka.

Take a look at the Skala and have the feeling of being on board a liner.

Imagine for a moment taking to the sea from La Skala.

Turn your head to all sides and perceive that the sea is truly omnipresent. On the right side…

… just like on the left.

Distinguish in the fog of heat, the Skala of the port and the swarming of fishing boats.

Scrounging a trawler returning to port in a waltz of seagulls hoping to retrieve some fish remains in its wake.

Be enthusiastic about the art present even on the roofs and imagine yourself for a few moments sitting on these few wrought iron chairs in the shade of the mosaics. Finally, go downstairs to cool off in the shade of the alleyways. This time, walk through the Medina in all directions and savour the freshness of the streets.

See the man with the black burnou crossed in another story (to be discovered on this blog in « Intrigue dans la Médina »), who also admires the Mogador of the Maghreb, from the top of his terrace, in the company of a seagull.

Climb back up onto a terrace to enjoy the spectacle ahead as the light begins to fade.

To be amazed by the incessant coming and going of the seagulls accompanying their flight, the return of the fishermen in the small port.

Exclaiming in front of the two latecomers who will have to face the sea that is beginning to get rough.

Ending the day filled with gratitude for having seen so many wonders and being deeply moved to see the sun set over the sea, for the umpteenth time, with the conviction that it will happen again and again.
